My Dr Recommends humidifier arrived in a box with a thermocol securing it from top and bottom. I intentionally ordered the sky blue color model, because the last time I had ordered the pink model from Allin Exporters. Not sure if its by chance but I found this one absolutely new brand. The product looked to be of good build quality. You see, scratches and defects in finishing do not give a good impression. No such issues with the Dr Recommends humidifier.

DESIGN AND LOOKS

The water drop shape humidifier looks soothing to the eyes, really. The Dr Recommends humidifier has a nozzle which is 360 degrees rotatable. What it enables you to do is to focus the mist to a particular direction. As with the Allin humidifier, the middle part of the body is translucent. This is the part in which you have to fill in the water. Hence, the water level is clearly visible through the humidifier. Its not that you need to keep a track of the water level yourself. As a safety mechanism, the Dr Recommends humidifier has an auto cutoff feature. The humidifier stops on its own when the water level depletes below a certain level.

The common thing about most ultrasonic humidifiers out there is their LED lights. The Dr Recommends humidifier too has an LED which changes colors constantly. When its dark in the room, the humidifier looks beautiful with the LED lamp ON. You can also turn the lights off during daytime operation or otherwise. Some humidifiers let you choose a fixed color LED light instead of an ever changing color. If somehow this feature were also present in the Dr Recommends humidifier, I’d have been nicer.

SEVEN COLOR CHANGING LED LIGHTS

Ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers come in all shapes and designs. Most of them have a color changing LED light provision which always looks great in low lights. My Dr Recommends humidifier too has a set of 7 LED lights. However, not all of them were illuminating the humidifier uniformly. The lower part of the humidifier body i.e. the white portion also lets the light be seen through it. So, the overall effect is nice. This is different than the Allin humidifier where the colors were visible only through the middle translucent portion. But, I liked the illumination of the Allin humidifier much better. The Dr Recommends humidifier does light up well for some colors, while Red and yellow were nowhere noticeable.

I guess the LED in my device was somewhat defective.

BODY MATERIAL

The lower half of the humidifier body is of a better material as compared to the Allin rain drop humidifier. The reason to say so is simple. While Allin water drop humidifier could not be used with essential oils, you can use the Dr Recommends humidifier for aroma diffuser function.

ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER USAGE

Who would not want to try out the humidifier’s use as an aroma diffuser. Using essential oils with humidifiers is a common thing many Americans follow. This trend is fast catching up with Indians as they are noticing humidifiers and their uses more and more. Not every humidifier can be used with essential oils. Unless the particular humidifier you are using is designed to be used as an essential oil diffuser, never experiment. The humidifier’s body needs to be made from safe plastics which do not react or produce harmful byproducts on coming in contact with essential oils.

The Allin rain drop humidifier was strictly not to be used as an aroma diffuser. However, the Dr Recommends humidifier can be used for this purpose. There is a dedicated essential oil tray where you can put a few drops of the essential oil of you choice. You may need to soak a cotton ball in that oil and place it in the retractable tray at the side of the humidifier.

Using multiple essential oils in tandem and not cleaning the oil tray may cause mixing up of aromas. Hence, always clean the tray before using a different essential oil.

MIST OUTPUT

Your Dr Recommends humidifier gives out nearly 350 ml/h of mist at its highest output setting. You can regulate how much cool mist you want by turning the dial. The cool mist as you should know by now, is cool to touch. Afterall, there is no heating involved in the production of the mist! The very fine water droplets are produced by an ultrasonic impeller or plate. Water on that plate is agitated and dispersed by using high frequency sound waves. Ultrasonic sound waves are the science behind such humidifiers.

No heating, no steam and no noise. Best Ultrasonic humidifiers are so versatile that unless they malfunction or you fail to maintain them, there’s no reason to be unhappy with them.

AUTO SHUTDOWN

The Dr Recommends humidifier automatically shuts down when there is no more water in the tank. To draw your attention towards itself, its power light becomes Red from Green. The humidifier in maximum mist output with a full water tank can run non-stop for around 7 hours. Even if you fill the water tank up to the brim, some of its water seeps down into the base. Hence, the middle part is never really full.

In a nutshell, a tank full would easily last the whole night.

MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning the humidifier, switch it off and unplug it. The exterior body of the humidifier can be wiped with a damp cloth. Always follow the below maintenance procedure before packing your humidifier off for long periods.

NOTE – Never use thinner, detergent or harsh chemicals to clean your humidifier, no matter which make and model it is.

Cleaning the Water Tank

You need to clean the water tank every 2-3 weeks. The sooner the better and always use pure water free from dissolved impurities. Prefer distilled water or RO water instead of tap water. Areas where the water TDS is high should be extra careful. Using salty water is a big No.

Fill water tank with water.
Add 2 teaspoon of white vinegar.
Close the water tank base.
Shake this water tank and let it be for 20 minutes.
Again after 20 minutes, shake it well and throw away the water.
Use plain water to rinse the water tank.

Cleaning the Humidifier Base

Procedure is nearly the same for cleaning the humidifier base.

Fill it with plain water.
Add 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and leave it as it is for 20 minutes.
Empty the base and rinse again with water.
Dry it out with a cotton cloth and expose to air.

CONCLUSION – Dr Recommends Humidifier Review

I really like the performance of my Dr Recommends humidifier. My device is functioning as expected. The price would look justified if your device keeps working well as mine is. It would be a complete waste of money if it doesn’t last long. This is the sad story with a majority of Chinese products. Ultrasonic humidifiers are rather delicate and you should not subject them to shocks or rough handling. Moreover, the three separable parts also do not allow careless operation. I would rate the Dr Recommends humidifier higher than the Allin water drop humidifier. Firstly, this humidifier has a lower cost than Allin. Secondly, it doubles up as a humidifier and an essential oil diffuser while Allin Exporters’ model could just be used as a humidifier.

The Dr Recommends humidifier looks nice with its color LEDs ON and cool mist coming out from its top. Choosing a good humidifier can be a boon for your skin and respiratory system. Avoid going for cheap humidifiers as they do not last long. Never even think of experimenting with just another humidifier. The water tank should have an anti-bacterial coating/material which inhibits growth of algae. Better to invest in a good humidifier which may be a little more pricey but atleast it would not put your health in danger. Cheap humidifiers can become a breeding ground for bacteria and in no time it can make you ill. Also, remember that a humidifier is not always an essential oil diffuser.
