Like its mobile phones, this air purifier has become quite popular too. We admit that we have not seen a website and product description so well compiled anywhere! We too decided to test it and brought a new device to review it. Check out the official website and see for yourself why are we so impressed.
MI Air Purifier 2 Review
It seems the company Xiaomi of MI is also aware that China made products are seen with suspicion. Often, Made in PRC products prove to be unreliable and become useless quickly. For this reason, the website specifically mentions the source companies for the various parts of their air purifiers. The MI Air Purifier 2 is named such since this is a second version of the MI Air Purifier. This is allegedly much improved than the previous MI Air Purifier. The latest version is also 40% more compact.

The most important specification which we love to discuss is the CADR rating. Well, the CADR for the MI Air Purifier 2 is 310 m³/h. As advertised, the air purifier can clean a room sized 21 m² is about 10 mins. It is normal for air purifiers to be able to clean a room that sized in 10 mins. If you choose the Turbo mode setting in air purifiers, then most of them would perform similarly.
We tested the PM2.5 reading in our room after operating the air purifier for approximately 20 minutes. The reading which the App showed was 5, which was great!

Filters
How well an air purifier cleans the air depends on a variety of factors. The design and placement of the air filters is the primary factor. The MI Air Purifier 2 has a cylindrical 3-layered filter. The triple layer filter consists of the primary filter, the EPA filter and the activated carbon filter. The 360° design cleans the air and removes PM2.5, harmful substances and formaldehyde from all angles. The filter replacement is also very easy and hardly takes more than a few seconds.
Primary Filter
Made with PET (polyethylene terephthalate), the outer layer is 3 to 5 times tougher than comparable models. It has high flexural strength and is resistant to folding, grease, fats, acids, alkalis and most solvents. The cylindrical shape provides 360° filtration of dust, hair and other larger floating particles.
Ultra Dense EPA Filter
Mi Air Purifier 2 uses an ultra-dense Toray EPA filter to trap PM2.5, PM0.3, pollen and other particles, allowing only clean air to pass through.
Activated Carbon Filter
Activated carbon adsorbs harmful gases across a large surface area. It is combined with an anti-formaldehyde formula that effectively adsorbs harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia, as well as odours and smoke.
Mi Home App and WiFi Module
The MI Air Purifier 2 has also introduced an app. The App helps you stay alert when there is a need for filter replacement. An air purifier is dependent on its air filters more than anything else. With time as the filters get covered in pollutants and dust, they lose effectiveness and should be replaced. Replacement of filters once the app flashes the alert is important. An already dirty filter may cause secondary contamination. MI recommends to change the filters every six months or as per use. The Honeywell Air Touch S also has an App and comparable CADR of 300.
Via the app, you can control the following (besides seeing other stats):
– Turning the air purifier on/off
– Changing the mode between Auto, Night or Manual
– Set Timer
– Detect Temperature and Humidity
Real Time Air Monitoring
A really cool feature of the Mi Home App is that you can monitor the air quality in real time. The app displays the level of PM2.5 particles in the room’s air.
Mi Air Purifier 2 learns your daily habits and schedule. What time do you generally wake up and turn the air purifier off. What time of the day do you set it to night mode. At what time the indoor pollution peaks because there’s food cooking in the kitchen and so on. The App lets you save your most frequent settings to repeat every day unless you choose otherwise. Honeywell AirTouch i8 has PM2.5 display.
Temperature and Humidity
That’s not all, built-in temperature and humidity sensors also give you more information about your environment.
Fan Speed Settings
The MI Air Purifier 2 lets you set the speed of the air purifier fan. This is fine, many other purifiers let do it. The different thing here is that MI Air Purifier 2 lets you set the fan speed in small increments. Other Air purifiers let you set the speed to maybe 5 steps including sleep, turbo, high, medium and low.
Air Circulation
Clean Air Circulation is what MI Air Purifier 2 blows away all its nearest competitors. The design of the fan motors is inspired from aircraft engines. The fans create high pressure and circulate the clean air to every corner of the room. The motor is powerful yet silent. Its not that you’ll have to suffer the noise of a jet engine as a trade-off.
The MI Air Purifier 2 throws the clean air vertically upwards. This is the ideal way how it should be. Many other air purifiers throw the air at an angle which is not as effective.
Useful Tips For Use- MI Air Purifier 2
⊕ Use the Turbo Mode more as compared to the Auto Mode. Auto Mode is useless in the way that there is not enough air suction/circulation to clean the air or maintain it. In order to save electricity, the air purifier compromises on the fan speed.
⊕ Do not have the Air Purifier running when already cleaning or dusting work is on. Its common sense that the dust would choke the filters too soon. Put the air purifier away from direct dust contact.
⊕ Use Manual mode to set the air purifier fan speed. There is a reason why we ask you to rely less on the AQI displayed by the air purifier. The reason being that the sensors are placed on the air purifier body and show the air quality reading for the air surrounding the air purifier only. While you are intelligent enough to guess that the far corners of the room may not have cleaned yet, set the fan speeds accordingly.
⊕ Do not let there be a build up of Carbon dioxide in the rooms. We understand that its only us who preach to keep your rooms air locked for best results. What it accounts for as a side-effect is that the CO2 levels in the room may go very high especially during the night. It is suggested to place some plants which release O2 even in dark.
BEST INDOOR ANTI POLLUTION PLANTS
⊕ Ventilate the rooms at around 8-9 AM in winters, not before that. Early morning air in cold conditions may be more polluted than you think. Let the smog disperse after the sun is out and the temperature increases. Before going to sleep, you may again open the doors and windows to change the stale air inside with fresh air. Before sleeping, run Turbo mode generously and enjoy a comfortable and safe sleep!
Power Consumption & Dimensions
MI Air Purifier 2 uses way too less of power. Its power consumption varies from a bare minimum of 1.5W in sleep mode to 31W in turbo mode.

The MI Air Purifier 2 is a very good device and at an affordable price tag much better than many Philips, Panasonic or Kent models. The reviews on Amazon or Flipkart also refer to the fact that customers liked the performance. At this price tag, all the features that are available are awesome. Honeywell has been keeping its price tag so high but is slowly mending its way too. In our view, it performs better than the Philips AC1215 air purifier. The whole air filter set for Philips is approximately double the cost for MI air filters.
We would recommend you to buy this air purifier. Recently, a newer model has been introduced, the MI Air Purifier 3. It has real time pollution display and a touch based Power ON system. Plus it also has an APP to control its functions.
